African swine fever is a lethal disease for wild boars and domestic pigs. Presently, Sweden is free of the disease but it is endemic in wild boar populations in nearby countries where there also have been outbreaks among domestic pigs. Outbreaks can be very costly as the concerned pig farms must be isolated and disinfected, all pigs in the holdings killed, and measures for contact tracing performed. The aim of this project is to investigate if it is possible to estimate the societal cost to Sweden should the disease become endemic in the Swedish wild boar population, and if there are efficient measures to reduce the risk of this occurring.
The project will be finalised in spring 2022.
